I actually love that canned clam chowder, too. Probably because I grew up with it and my tastebuds became attuned to it. Your split pea soup sounds much better than the stuff my aunt used to have to force me to eat, though!

Haha too funny– I officially brought in soup season too just yesterday. This looks so good though! Split pea and ham soup made with the ham bone and leftover ham the day after a holiday may just be my favorite. Have you read My Berlin Kitchen by Luisa Wiess (yes)? In it she has a split pea soup with bacon and hot dogs. Hot dogs! It’s very German, apparently, but I’m so intrigued by that that I may just have to try it soon.

I like the simplicity of this recipe, I make soup all winter but didn’t really have a good split pea recipe even though I really like it. Now I just need to buy some split peas so I can make this.
